نستعمل هذا الزمن للتعبير عن احداث في الماضي تستمر لمدة معينة وليست لحظية. مثال: (I was eating my breakfast when the telephone rang).
كيفية تكوين الماضي المستمر:
Subject + To be (in the past) + Infinitive + Ing
أمثلة:
I was reading the book when you come.
When the phone rang, we were eating dinner.
Yesterday at this time, I was still driving the car.
She was always coming to class late

- يأتي هذا الزمن عادة مع كلمات مثل :
When عندما
while بينما
As مثل-بينما
النفى
يتكون النفى باضافة كلمة not الى الفعلين wasاوwere قبل الفعل الاساسى

yesterday i wasnot playing football
امس لم اكن العب الكره
last week she wasnot travelling
الاسبوع الماضى هى لم تكن مسافره
they werenot enjoying the party last night
هم لم يستمتعوا بالحفل الليله الماضيه

يتكون السوال فى زمن الماضى المستمر بوضع كلمتى wasاوwere قبل الفاعل ويكون السوال بمعنى هل
مثال
were you playing football yesterday?
هل كنت تلعب الكره بالامس؟
تكون الاجابه هناyes i was اوno i wasnot
